John G. Schmitz was born in Milwaukee, Wis., August 12, 1930. He earned degrees for Marquette University in 1952 and California State College at Long Beach in 1960. Schmitz served as a Marine Corps jet fighter and helicopter pilot from 1952-1960, and as a lieutenant colonel in the Marine Corps Reserve from 1960-1983. Schmitz taught philosophy and political science at Santa Ana (now Rancho Santiago) College beginning in 1960, and was elected to the California State senate...
